Vasa Mihich is a renowned Los Angeles-based artist known for his sleek, colorful, and captivating acrylic sculptures. He was a Senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), teaching color theory for many years. For nearly 50 years he has been working in acrylics, whether on canvas or through sculpture.
His sculptures, with their different geometric planes suspended in acrylic, are dynamic and endlessly fascinating.
The triangle is arguably Vasa Mihich's most iconic and collected form. This shape is an ideal form for the artist to demonstrate his mastery of color suspension and transformation. Many viewers are surprised to discover that this is acrylic rather than glass
“Winter Triangle” is a paradigm of his work. Depending on how you position the piece, different ombré hues, including icy shades of arctic blue, cobalt and grape, will emerge, recede, or overlap.
When viewed from the side, a surprising illumination of blush pink reveals itself, punctuating the otherwise cool palette.
This minimalist sculpture is a paradigm of Mihich’s ongoing investigation of light, color, and negative space. These key optical characteristics are present throughout his oeuvre.
After mostly dedicating his career to education, Mihich continues to be focused on his studio practice in Los Angeles.
